"Pink Amethyst" is a trade name for a recently discovered variety of crystalline Quartz. Mineralogically, it is distinct from both traditional purple Amethyst (colored by iron and irradiation) and Rose Quartz (a massive, translucent variety colored by titanium or manganese). Pink Amethyst's color comes from microscopic inclusions of Hematite within the Quartz crystals. This gives it a unique color range, from a soft, dusty rose to a more vibrant peachy-pink or salmon hue.

The find at Tarazout, within the greater Sidi Rahal region, is what introduced Pink Amethyst to the mineral market on a large scale. While the area was already famous for its deep purple Amethyst geodes, this new discovery yielded these uniquely colored specimens. The material from Tarazout is considered the premier example of Pink Amethyst, prized by collectors and designers for its beautiful color, sparkling druzy texture, and aesthetic geode formations.
