What is a Mosasaurus Tooth?
This is a fossilized tooth from a Mosasaurus, a formidable group of extinct, large marine reptiles that dominated the oceans during the Late Cretaceous period, approximately 65 million years ago, right up until the end-Cretaceous extinction event. Mosasaurs, whose first fossil remains were discovered in 1764 near the Meuse river (hence their name, from Latin "Mosa" and Greek "sauros" meaning "lizard"), probably evolved from an extinct group of aquatic lizards known as aigialosaurs. During the last 20 million years of the Cretaceous (Turonian–Maastrichtian ages), they became the dominant marine predators after the extinction of ichthyosaurs and pliosaurs. They ultimately became extinct as a result of the K-Pg event about 66 million years ago.

The Oulad Abdoun Basin (also known as the Ouled Abdoun Basin or Khouribga Basin) is a phosphate sedimentary basin located near the city of Khouribga. It is the largest in Morocco, comprising 44% of the country's phosphate reserves, and holds at least 26.8 billion tons of phosphate. It is also renowned as an important site for vertebrate fossils, with deposits ranging from the Late Cretaceous (Cenomanian-Turonian) to the Eocene epoch (Ypresian), spanning a period of about 25 million years.
