What is a Shiva Eye?
A "Shiva Eye" is the operculum (a calcareous, door-like structure) from certain species of Turban Snails, primarily Turbo petholatus, found in the warm waters of the Indo-Pacific. When the snail retracts into its shell, the operculum seals the opening, protecting the creature from predators and desiccation. These opercula are naturally formed, often exhibiting a beautiful spiral pattern on one side and a more uniform, often white or creamy, surface on the other. They are highly valued for their natural beauty and are often polished and shaped, like this heart-shaped example, for use in jewelry and decorative items.

Composition & Appearance
Color: One side typically features natural swirling patterns of brown, green, and white, often with concentric bands. The other side is usually a pristine white or creamy color, often with a slight iridescence.
Crystal Habit: Not a crystal, but a bio-mineralized shell part. It is naturally convex on one side and flatter on the other, forming a thick, smooth, disc-like shape. In this case, it has been cut and polished into a heart shape.
Luster: Vitreous (glass-like) to pearly on the polished surfaces.
Key Characteristics: The most distinctive feature is the natural spiral pattern on one side, which resembles an eye, leading to its "Shiva Eye" moniker. The heart shape here is a human modification, enhancing its aesthetic appeal. The material is smooth, dense, and takes a high polish beautifully.

Metaphysical & Elemental Associations (The following information is based on metaphysical and crystal healing beliefs, not scientific study.)
Associated Chakras: Third Eye (Ajna) & Heart (Anahata)
The natural spiral "eye" pattern of the Shiva Eye strongly associates it with the Third Eye Chakra, enhancing intuition, insight, and spiritual vision. When shaped into a heart, it also powerfully resonates with the Heart Chakra, promoting love, compassion, emotional healing, and harmony in relationships.
Natural Element: Water & Earth
Shiva Eye shells embody the Water element due to their oceanic origin, representing flow, emotion, purification, and the subconscious. The solid, protective nature of the shell also connects it to the Earth element, providing grounding, stability, and a sense of security.

Zodiac Sign: Pisces & Cancer
Shiva Eye resonates particularly well with Pisces, enhancing their intuition, spiritual connection, and emotional depth. It also aligns with Cancer, supporting their nurturing nature, emotional well-being, and connection to home and family. The heart shape further amplifies its benefits for those seeking love and emotional balance.
